Document Certification

Certified True Copies of Documents

A number of situations arise where true copies of documents are necessary in order to be accepted by organizations outside of Canada. Examples of this include Notarized copies of diplomas for education credentials, copies of identification for immigration, or copies of business documents.

In order to certify copies of documents, we require the original document. We will then seal the copy as a certified copy of an original document.

Travel Consent Affidavits & Letters

Children traveling alone, with groups, or with only one of their parents should travel with a consent letter obtained from each person with custodial or guardianship rights. In addition, we recommend that clients contact the representatives of each country to ensure that they have the most up-to-date information regarding entry requirements.

Consent letters must be certified by an official, such as a Notary, with the authority to administer an oath or solemn declaration. Certified consent letters require the following information:

  • Your name, address, and phone number
  • Name and date of birth of your child
  • Countries your child will be travelling to
  • Name of any accompanying adults
  • Dates of travel

Sworn Affidavits & Statutory Declarations

Affidavits and Statutory Declarations are statements of fact in writing, under which the person making the statement (the deponent) must solemnly swear to be true. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, it is an offence to sign a document purporting to be an affidavit or statutory declaration sworn or declared before a Notary, when in fact the document was not so sworn or declared. These statements are verified by the solemn declaration of the person making the statement. We provide the following responsibilities when taking an affidavit or statutory declaration:

  • Identity of the deponent
  • Capacity of the deponent
  • Administer the Oath, Affirmation or Solemn Declaration
  • Signature of the deponent
  • Completing the Jurat
  • Alterations
  • Follow procedure when the deponent does not understand English
  • Follow procedure when the deponent in visually impaired or illiterate
